National Honor Society State Summits Experience
Experience:
very year, more than 150 students gather in locations across the country for a hands-on experiential leadership development program designed to cultivate empowerment and leadership skills. Organized by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the day-long program is designed to be more “think-tank” than “talking heads.” Students are asked and encouraged to be fully present, voicing their ideas at the table, as they hear from state leaders on hot-button issues. They work on leadership competency skills, global issues, and then create a solution for a local challenge using design thinking strategies.
Solution:
Visual Experiences, Graphic Facilitation, Studio Services
Impact:
Graphic recording captured the key ideas and learnings, increasing memory recall and retention, and was used as a communication tool by the students when returning to their schools.
Designed visual templates and reflection activity increased the students’ engagement.
The visual template helped students organize their thoughts and facilitated a clear presentation of their solution back to the main group.
Using their hands to think, students used visual thinking exercises to reflect on learnings over lunch.
